Carly Schmitt

Carly Schmitt, aufgewachsen in Minnesota, gründete 2004 nach dem Studium der Freien Kunst und Kommunikationswissenschaft das Malereiunternehmen Artist@Large in Seattle. 2008 wurde sie in das Stipendiumprogramm der Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung aufgenommen, studierte an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und erhielt 2010 den Master für Kunst im Öffentlichen Raum.

Carly Schmitt hat sich international als Künstlerin etabliert, welche die Kunst als Werkzeug der Kommunikation und Entwicklung innerhalb von städtischen und ländlichen Gemeinschaften nutzt und anregt. In Ihren Arbeiten bezieht sie Menschen über soziale und interkulturelle Grenzen hinweg aktiv in den Entstehungsprozess mit ein, um in gemeinschaftlicher Arbeit das Werk am Ort entstehen zu lassen. Ihre Arbeiten waren und sind in Gallerien, Museen und im öffentlichen Raum in den USA, Deutschland, Griechenland und in Bosnien-Herzegowina zu sehen.

 

Carly Schmitt, originally from Minnesota, is a public artist, educator and artistic entrepreneur. Schmitt is the President, founder and CEO of Artist @ Large, a small art business under which she executes large-scale public art projects and curates various community-based artistic initiatives. She holds a B.A. from Macalester College, and a M.F.A in Public Art and New Artistic Strategies from the Bauhaus University in Weimar Germany.  She is a recipient of the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt German Chancellor Fellowship, and has presented her work at the German House in New York City, the Temporäre Kunsthalle in Berlin, and at various universities throughout the United States and Europe. Schmitt is best known for her work that blurs the conventional boundary between art and life through a variety of artistic approaches. Her public artworks aims to span gaps, build bridges and bring people together through a system of unexpected circumstances and extraordinary contexts. Schmitt’s work can be encountered throughout Europe and the United States.
